Avanço tells the story of the struggle of the Pankararus and Pataxós peoples of the Cinta Vermelha Jundiba village to protect their territory from predatory mining by large multinationals that have invaded the Jequitinhonha Valley region in search of lithium, the most coveted mineral of the energy transition. While politicians and financial market agents use the legitimate discourse of the climate crisis and greenwash tactics to increase exploitation and their profits, the indigenous people are looking for ways to demarcate their territory to stop the advance of mining and protect the nature around their village. To do this, they join forces with quilombolas, riverside dwellers and socio-environmental activists, forming a network of resistance for political struggle in defense of the forest, rivers, territories and traditional culture of the region, revealing the history hidden beneath the colonial discourses still present in society, and some ideas of how to “postpone the end of the world”.
